The goal of improvement is to achieve a better quality data, removing known errors, and discovering, reporting and eliminating even those errors that were not recognized by the user. We make documents coherent, further editable, maintainable and robust.
The goal of data enhancement is adding new content to achieve more convenient use, and/or enhancing presentation and use of the data. We start data enhancement projects with an analysis of the existing content, its presentation and use. First we convert the data to readable raw data, and then provide either a single step or an incremental enhancement. Based on our experience - having converted and hyperlinked tons of documents, in manual, half-automated and automated ways - we find the optimal ratio of manual work and software development. Thus we can minimize both costs of the project and cost and labour need arising at the client during further use of the data.
One example for this type of assignment is our work with the Nice Classification, the classification of products and services for the purposes of registration of trademarks. In that case we made it possible to redefine the format of the publication, like sort order of the entries, content and layout of the columns of the tables, used languages, the arrangement and set of languages in case of bilingual or trilingual version of the same text, and naturally the redefinition of constant texts in headers, footers and table headers. In another project, our work on the Handbook of the World Intellectual Property Organization, we produced robust, further editable Word documents, which are used as sources for both paper and electronic publications, from the original mainframe documents.
